2012 Board members present: Paul Jantzen, Jim Martin, Steve Sundheimer, Mike Winter, Vince Veltri, Don Janssen and Carl Ziegler

2012 members absent: None.

Guests: None

The meeting was called to order by President Paul Jantzen at 7:05pm

With the absence of Secretary David Speed Secretary elect Mike Winter took the minutes.

President Jantzen stated he would delay his report until later in the meeting.

Safety Officer Don Janssen reported a demo aircraft crashed during the noon airshow of the Warbird Fly-in. There were no injuries.

Board member and membership chairman Al Jensen reported that we currently have 325 members. This number undoubtedly will drop on January first with the nonrenewal of some 2011 members. The types of AMA memberships available were discussed.

Treasurer Steve Sundheimer presented his report: The cost of portable toilets at the airfield was discussed. A preliminary financial report of the War bird fly-in and Corvin Miller Memorial Contest was presented. A motion was made to accept the report as presented. The motion passed.

Board member elect Vince Veltri reported that he was concerned about our AMA sanctioned events that we hold throughout the year. In 2012 he intends to become a CD and take an active part in the organization of our events.

Al Jensen reported on the Membership Manual. It has been proof read numerous times and was sent out for bids. Creative Technologies was the low bidder. A motion was made to purchase 350 copies. The motion passed.

The number of Newsletters that should be printed was discussed. The new amount is 24. This should be sufficient to allow Phil Bender to distribute copies to our advertisers and to have a sufficient amount in the Operations Building for members.

Training Coordinator Al Jensen reported that Instructor pilots are needed. If you are a competent pilot and have some spare time please volunteer. Al reported once again that he will resign as the Training Coordinator effective January 1, 2012.

President Paul Jantzen brought up several items for discussion that had been brought to his attention by email:

There was anonymous report that a large high wing model had been flown out of the box at the West end of the field on Saturday afternoon after the end of the War bird Fly-in. The Board concluded that it could not act on an anonymous input, however all members are reminded that at this time of the year with strong East winds it is very easy to get blown down wind.

There was a report that a battery that had been left in the Operations Building had disappeared. Paul Jantzen is designing a lockable lost and found box that will be bolted to a desk.

It was reported that two members had had an exchanged of emails that were not exactly complimentary. The Board decided it was a personal issue between two members and that it did not involve the Board.

Vice President Jim Martin discussed the organization of our membership meetings. It was decided that for the present we would continue with the club business first followed by the program.

President Jantzen thanked the 2011 Board for the fine job that they had done throughout the year.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00

Secretary elect, Mike Winter

Membership Meeting November 23, 2011

Twin Lakes Park, Sarasota, FL

The meeting was called to order @ 7:02 P.M. by President Paul Jantzen.

He led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

There were 44 members present.

New members or guests: Jim Martin’s mother was a guest.

A motion was made to close the 2012 nominations.  The motion was seconded and passed.

Announcements:  The Warbird event is being held December 3rd and 4th.  George Jenkins is the C.D. and asked for volunteers to help with set up, the raffle, food service, and tear down.  Please bring a teddy bear to the event.  The teddy bears are given to the Sherriff’s Department.  The Sherriff’s Department passes the teddy bears out when there is a child involved in an incident.  Besides doing a good deed, you will receive $5.00 off your landing fee if you fly during the Warbird event.

George Jenkins had some nice posters of our events printed and he asked members to take them and post at their favorite place in town.  It will be a good way of increasing public awareness of our facility and bring more spectators.

The Venice club is having their Annual Electric Fly-In on December 10th and 11th.  Times are 8:00 A.M. till ??? on Saturday and 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 on Sunday.  $12.00 landing fee.

Frank Tiano is having an event in Lakeland called Twelve O’clock High on December 8th, 9th, and 10th from 8:30 to 5:00 each day.  All size warbirds are welcome.  No judging, no contest, just come and fly.

The membership needs to select a Member of the Year at the December meeting.  Think of a few members you think deserve the recognition.  Come to December’s meeting and vote in secret.  The member selected will be announced at the Family Picnic that will be held in the 1st quarter of 2012.

We currently have 323 members.  Remember that number will drop as some members may not renew.

President’s Report:  If you have been to the field in the last couple of weeks, you may have seen the survey crews in the park.  They are doing a topographical survey of the land to determine water run-off flow.  This is a preliminary step to placing the paving of our road out to bid.  We watch, we wait.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Sundheimer presented the October financial report.  A motion was made and seconded to approve the report as presented.  The motion passed.

Safety Report:   One pilot was cut by a propeller at the Corvin Miller event.  11 stitches later, he came back and flew.  Remember, you are to report any injuries to a Board member.

Old Business:   Mike Winter reported the Corvin Miller event took place for the 28th time this month.  Pilot participation was the lowest of any previous year.  Those who did attend had a great time.  The pilots got to fly one at a time, the food was great, and the weather cooperated.  Mike thanked co C.D. Jim Martin for all his help and also thanked all the members who helped make this a great event.

The entire results of the event and some photos are posted on the club website.

Jim Martin thanked Gator Hobbies for donating a package of products for each pilot.  Please support the hobby shops that support us!

New Business:

None

Show and Tell    Brian from Gator hobbies demonstrated a small coaxial helicopter for the members.  Four of them will be raffled off at the end of the meeting.  Brian was trying to land the helicopter on Mike Winter’s head, but aborted the attempt when it was determined the risk to the helicopter was too great.

Break

Jim Martin asked club members what kind of activities would be enjoyed by the members.  Do we have too many events that involve scale models?  Do we want to do more fun flys?  Many good ideas were presented.  The new administration will try to act on the members’ ideas and get more members involved actively in the club.

The election results were presented to the membership by Election Chairman Jim Behanna.
