SRQ Minutes Membership Meeting
October 10, 2011
Operations Building
Members Present: Paul Jantzen, Jim Martin, Steve Sundheimer, David Speed, Al Jensen, and Jim Holloman
Absent: Don Janssen
Guests: George Jenkins
The meeting was called to order by President Jantzen @ 7:06 P.M.
This special meeting was called to discuss a menu and if the food will be prepared by the club or an outside vendor for the Corvin Miller and the Warbirds event.
George Jenkins provided the latest quotations on outside vendors that could supply the services of supplying and selling food for the upcoming events. All of the vendors would charge more to the customer than SRQ has charged in the past. Minimum guarantees were required by some vendors and most vendors did not provide a commission to the club. Each Board member was asked for their recommendation. The consensus was SRQ should continue the past practice of having club volunteers provide the manpower to prepare Belly Buster hot dogs and hamburgers/cheeseburgers. The club has made money in the past and hopes to continue doing so. This will require members to volunteer to help provide the food. Three crews are needed to provide lunch. A setup crew to help set up the evening before the event. A lunch crew to cook and serve the food. A cleanup crew to break down and cleanup after lunch has been provided.
An E-Mail will be sent to all members asking for help and Paul will ask for help at the club meeting.
George Jenkins will handle the coffee and donuts in the morning.
George Jenkins will apply to the county for the required permits for RVs that wish to stay overnight. All overnight RVs will be charged $10.00 per night to offset the permit costs.
Ropes will be used to control the spectators instead of the wooden planks. This will be easier for the setup crews and will allow the spectators to see the planes in flight.
Jon Hay has scoring program that runs under Microsoft Access and can be used for the Corvin Miller event. Jon wants $125.00 for the program. A motion was made and seconded to purchase the program. The motion passed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:42 P.M.

Members Present: Paul Jantzen, Jim Martin, Jim Holloman, Steve Sundheimer, David Speed, Al Jensen, and Don Janssen.
Absent: None.
Guests: None.
The meeting was called to order by President Jantzen @ 7:03 P.M.
The Light Plane and Golden Age Fly-In event went very well. We had 2 members from outside our membership that flew in the event. The Board thanks Dave Hasler for his efforts in having a fine event.
The Open House turned out to be a great event. Carolyn Brown from the county showed up and seemed to enjoy the event. Solid Waste and Parks and Recreation were going to come and have a display of some sort, but they did not show. The kids seemed to really enjoy the small gliders that were provided and we hope to do it again. The event was a great opportunity for the public to see what our hobby is about. We wished we had more publicity and a larger attendance. We need more members to help with the set up and break down of the events. Too much of the work is placed on too few members.
President’s Report: None.
Safety Officer Report: A reminder that the new associate member may not go passed the fence unless they have an AMA membership. Associate members who belong to the AMA should have orientation so they know our boundaries and other rules necessary to safely go passed the fence line.
Jim Holloman reported a member had a stuck throttle that was close to wide open. He had to fly until the engine died but did not notify everyone he had an emergency and to watch out for him. Members are reminded they should loudly announce an emergency.
Treasurer’s Report: Mr. Sundheimer presented the September financial report. The financial report was accepted as presented.
Al Jensen reported we currently have 299 members.
Old Business:
Jim Marin thanked all of the people who helped out during the Open House.
Ron Nash has indicated he might be able to help with the December newsletter if the Board cannot find someone else. There is a meeting with Fred Bigio on Wednesday to see how much he is willing to do.
It was noted that any member who wishes to run for office must notify a member of the nominating committee directly. Jim Behanna, Jim Holloman and Jim Russell are the Nominating Committee members.
A member requested the financial books of the club be audited. There is no requirement that the books be audited, but after discussion it was decided the books will be audited whenever the treasurer is changed. Since a new treasurer was elected for 2011, the 2010 books will be audited. David Speed will look into getting an outside CPA to audit the books.
Some non-budgeted items have increased our YTD expenses. It was suggested these items be charged to the appropriate reserve account. It is a paper transaction only. The general fund will remain positive even if the items are left in the current account. After discussion it was decided to leave the items as they are.
New Business:
A member sent an E-Mail to a board member advising him of a safety violation. The Board reviewed the E-Mail and has addressed the issue. The Board thanks all members who strive to keep our club a safe place to fly.
A member requested the Board investigate the fly-over that took place at the Light Plane and Golden Age Fly-In. The captain of the CAP who was present approached CD Martin and indicated there was a fellow CAP pilot who would like to do a fly-over. We had an earlier successful fly-over by a club member at about 1,100 feet. No discussion was had between the CD and the CAP of altitude or location. As FAA regulations require, any flight over any open air assembly of persons, requires an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within 2,000 feet of the aircraft. SRQ did not foresee any problem. The actual fly-over appeared to violate FAA regulations. All future fly-overs will require radio communications between the CD and the pilot of the full scale aircraft prior to and during the fly-over. If such communication is not possible, the fly-over will not be allowed.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 P.M.

Membership Meeting September 28, 2011
Twin Lakes Park, Sarasota, FL
The meeting was called to order @ 7:05 P.M. by President Paul Jantzen.
He led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
There were 43 members present.
New members or guests: New members Carl Traenkner, Chuck Berster, Joe Farr and Martin DeRoy were all attending their first meeting. The club is glad to have you.
Announcements: This Saturday is our Open House. All members are invited to come and fly. A county commissioner, the AMA district V.P. and the AMA site coordinator have all accepted our invitation. Channel 6 will come on Friday and have some video for Friday night and Saturday. The event is also posted on Craig’s List and channel 7 may have some coverage. Thanks to everyone who brought their old magazines that will be given out at the events.
Hunsader Farms has invited SRQ once again to fly during all three weekends this month. Flying is on the 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th of October. Come fly and get in for free. You will avoid the $8.00 admission and the $5.00 parking. Hunsader will try again this year to shoot down Paul Jantzen’s Stick. This year they will use 3 or 4 smaller pumpkins in each shot! Might be fun. Paul asked all flyers to please be aware of the crowd and not fly over them. The more flyers we have, the better publicity for our hobby and SRQ. Please try and come for a least one day. For more information and directions go to http://www.hunsaderfarms.com/page9.html
Solo Certificate: Steve Sundheimer was presented with the largest solo certificate ever presented at SRQ. The special certificate was in honor of Steve’s perseverance in learning to fly. Over two years of concentrated effort, he was rewarded with a solo flight that took place on September 26, 2011. Steve’s instructor was David Speed who was the only person happier than Steve. Al Jensen performed the check flight.
President’s Report: Paul reported the paving of our road is still in the works. Paul knows the membership is tired of hearing this, but we can only wait and watch.
Treasurer’s Report:
Treasurer Sundheimer presented the August financial report. A motion was made and seconded to approve the report as presented. The motion passed.
Safety Report: Don asked the members to remember to start their airplane in the starting areas only! Please offer to assist your fellow flyers when they are starting an airplane. Not only is it safer, it is the considerate thing to do.
Nominating Committee: Vince Veltri has resigned from the committee so he may run for a position. Jim Behanna is now chairman of the committee. Jim Holloman and Jim Russell are the two other members of the committee.
The following have announced their desire to run:
President: Paul Jantzen
Vice President: Jim Martin
Treasurer: Steve Sundheimer
Secretary: Open
Board: David Speed
Don Janssen
Vince Veltri
Jon Hay
Carl Ziegler
Note: The club still needs a secretary. If you are interested in running for any position, remember that you must notify a member of the Nominating Committee directly.
Old Business: George Jenkins is the CD for both the Corvin Miller and the Warbirds events. A large mailing to clubs and hobby shops is under way. We still need static and flight judges. If you would like to be a judge, please contact George Jenkins. There will be a training class on judging, if you would like to help, but are not sure you know how. Again, please see George.
New Business:
The proposed 2012 budget was presented to the membership by Treasurer Sundheimer. The proposed budget would allow the current dues and initiation structure to remain the same. The new Associate Membership would follow the Junior Membership fee structure. A motion was made and seconded to accept the proposed budget as presented. The motion passed with 42 votes in the affirmative.
Several months ago, Vince Veltri approached the Board about updating the Membership Manual and the included by-laws. President Jantzen thanked Vince and the other members who worked on making the proposed changes. Proposed changes in the by-laws were published in the newsletter and available for viewing on the website. A motion was made and seconded to amend the by-law changes as published. During the discussion period, a motion was made to amend the amendment. The amendment was to replace the following paragraph in Article XI:
C. A member who is unable to attend a meeting where an issue is to be voted upon by
written ballot may vote by proxy. The proxy vote must be in writing. The proxy vote
must be signed and delivered to SRQ via U.S. Mail. Walk-in votes or those delivered by
hand will not be accepted.

those delivered by hand will not be accepted.
The motion to amend the amendment passed. After further discussion, the motion to amend the by-laws as published was passed with 42 votes in the affirmative.
Jim Martin, on behalf of the entire membership, thanked C.D. Dave Hasler for the excellent job he did at the Golden Age and Light Plane Fly-In that took place on September 17th. We had 23 flyers and a good time was has by pilots and spectators alike. “Thanks,” Dave!
Program: Jim Martin reviewed what would be happening at Saturday’s Open House. There will be flight demos, tents to show off electric planes, trainers, turbines, scale planes, etc. There will be a flight simulator inside the operations building with a 100” screen for any future pilots to give it a try at no risk. Please come and support your club.
A member asked if the Board had taken any action on the full scale flyover that took place on September 17th. The Board has not met since the incident and, therefore, has not officially discussed the issue. The Board will review the issue at the October Board meeting.
Al Jensen reviewed the benefits of being an Associate Member. AMA membership is not required and the dues are $20.00 for 2012. See the membership application or contact Al for more information.
Show and Tell Bill Kimbrell showed his Spencer Air Bike that is under construction. It is scratch built from photos of the full size aircraft. The plane is ¼ scale making the model’s wing just around 80”. It will be powered by a Zenoah 26cc engine. Bill hopes to test fly the aircraft soon and, if all goes well, enter it in the Corvin Miller event.
The raffle was conducted by Steve Petitto. This month’s raffle was for a charger capable of charging all battery chemistries. The prize was won by Fred Bigio.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:22 P.M.
