SRQ Board Meeting
October 12, 2009 Operations Building
Members present: Phil Bender, Dick Bobb, John Hall, Jon Hay, Bernie Saloman, Vince Veltri and Mike Winter.
Members absent: None
Guests: None
The meeting was called to order by President Hay at 7:05pm.
Jon Hay reported that the SRQ Gate has been fixed. An email will be sent to the membership.
Meeting place for next year was discussed. We will continue at Twin Lakes Park.
Sunday flying times were discussed. The rules are 8am to dusk. No change is required.
The coming November election was discussed. Newsletter Editor Mike Winter stated that space will be made available in both the October and November Newsletters for candidate statements. The deadline for the October Newsletter is Monday October 19th. Submit to mikeandeva@comcast.net.
Grass runway excursions were discussed. President Hay will discuss at the membership meeting. Flying out of the box at the west end of the main runway was also discussed. Flying in the box must be enforced.
President Hay announced he will be absent from the November membership meeting. It will be conducted by VP John Hall. Mike Winter announced he will be absent from the December meeting. Vince Veltri will take the December minutes.
Secretary Mike Winter discussed a proposed change to the By-laws to define the type of AMA membership that is required to join SRQ. The recommended change is as follows:

1. For members with flying privileges, be a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Members over 19 as of July 1 shall maintain an OPEN or EXTRA membership. Members under 19 as of July 1 shall maintain a YOUTH membership. A PARK PILOT PROGRAM membership is not sufficient to join SRQ.

The Board unanimously agreed to recommend that the membership adopt the proposed change. The proposed By-laws change will be published in the October and November Newsletter, discussed at the October membership meeting and voted on at the November meeting.
Treasurer Dick Bobb discussed the 2010 budget. He will make the 2010 budget presentation at the October meeting.
Jon Hay discussed coming events and reminded us that the Hunsader Farms October Fest is this coming weekend and the following weekend. Mike Winter will add the information to COMING EVENTS on the web site. The event is for SRQ members only and an SRQ badge is required for free entry.
Vice president John Hall discussed the Gold Leader Club status of SRQ.
Safety Officer Vince Veltri stated that he would not be forming a rules review committee.

Membership Meeting September 23, 2009
Twin Lakes Park, Sarasota, FL
Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Jon Hay. He then led us in the pledge of Allegiance.
There were 32 members present.
New members: Tom Casey. Tom is the gentleman who presented the B-25 Doolittle Raider program at the July membership meeting.
Announcements:
Membership Chairman Al Jensen distributed preprinted 2010 renewal applications to the 2009 members present. Renewal packages not picked up by October 1, 2009 will be mailed.
President Jon Hay reminded us that the Hunsader’s October Fest is on October 16, 17 & 18 and October 24 and 25th. This event is for SRQ members only. Members must show their club badge to gain free entrance. If you are driving north go pass the main to the gate marked SRQ.
Webmaster Mike Winter stated that he would add a NOMINATION/ELECTION page to the site. Nominees are invited to submit a résumé for publication in both the web site and the October and November Newsletter. If you wish to run for office contact Nomination Chairman Steve Sundheimer at (941)400-5255. The ballot will be contained in the November 2009 Newsletter.
Secretary Winter also announced that he updated the Tri-fold SRQ brochure that George Jenkins originally produced and that 500 color copies have been printed. They will be distributed to the local hobby shops and handed out at our major events.
It was announced that Ace Hobbies in Venice has been sold. It will move further north on the Venice US41 bypass.
Ed Buchholz motioned, seconded by Joe Fast, that the minutes of the August membership meeting be accepted as published. The motion passed.
Treasurer Dick Bobb presented his report for August 2009. Bernie Saloman motioned, seconded by Jim Martin, that the report be accepted as presented. The motioned passed.
New Business:
President Hay stated that there is no club rule defining the type of maneuvers that may be perform over the center of field. Vince Veltri stated that his rules committee, that was formed at the September board meeting, will review all field rules and make a recommendation at a later date.
Jon Hay reported that the Fantasy of Flight is holding an R/C event on November 7th and 8th. The $23 admission fee includes access to the museum.
Jon Hay gave a report on the Cub- in. A rules change, to include all Golden Age aircraft in the 2010 event, was discussed
Jon Hay reminded us that the Corvin Miller Memorial Scale Masters qualifier will be held on November 14th and 15th. Tom Smith is the CD.
Jon Hay reminded us that the War Bird Fly-in will be held on December 5th. Tom Smith is the CD.
Jon Hay urged members to run for office and to vote in our November election.
Jon Hay gave an update on our Gate. Testing is in progress. The gate may move further up the hill but regardless it should be operating within a week. Jon can program your remote for non-keypad entry.
BREAK:
The Budget for 2010 was presented by Treasurer Dick Bobb. Bill Kimbrell motioned, seconded by Bernie Saloman, to accept the budget as proposed. During the discussion questions arose concerning projected income. Parliamentarian Joe Wright motioned, seconded by Joe Fast, that the motion by postponed definitely. The motion passed. The 2010 Budget will be presented at the October 2009 membership meeting.
PROGRAM:
Jon Hay gave an excellent dissertation on carburetors for gasoline powered model engines.
Show and Tell:
Jaffrey Stevenson presented his Cyber Scout. It is a three engine canard design that is capable of vertical as well as horizontal flight. Very interesting.
Bill Kimbrell showed the tail control surfaces his Yellow Aircraft Spitfire. He also showed an old time glow engine.
Raffle: Bill Kimbrell conducted the raffle. There were three prizes: Jim Martin was the first winner and he chose a P-51 ARF; Steve Petitto was the second winner and he chose The Tiger 2 ARF and Bernie Saloman was the third winner and he chose (??) the remaining prize, a Russian Carrier.
