SRQ Board Meeting
July 12, 2010
Members Present: Phil Bender, Paul Jantzen, Neil Hanson, David Speed, Al Jensen, Vince Veltri, and Charlie Allen.
Members Absent: None
Guests: None
The meeting was called to order by President Bender @ 6:55 P.M.
President’s report: The latest information on the insurance claim from the old jet crash is that the insurance company of the aircraft owner is going to settle with the county. The county representatives have indicated that the road leading to our facility will be paved at least partway. It is unknown how far the paving will go at this time. The paving will start by the fall of 2010.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Hanson reviewed the June financial report with the board. Neil also presented the board with a 6 month YTD vs. Budget report. All budget items are on track. A motion was made to accept the reports as presented. Motion passed.
Steve Sundheimer is doing the audit of the books for 2009.
Old Business: The infraction of the Sarasota R/C Squadron By-Laws, Article V, Section C., paragraph 2 by a club member resulted in a meeting between a Board member and the club member. The Board member presented a report to the Board on the meeting. The Board is satisfied with the results and the matter is closed.
Treasurer Hanson reported on his investigation into CD rates. After discussion, a motion was made to allow Treasurer Hanson to purchase a CD in the amount of $45,000 for a period not to exceed 5 years, at the best available rate. Motion passed.
The Board will invite helicopter pilots to the next Board meeting to determine if additional safety guidelines and/or rules are appropriate.
The Board still has an opening for an Event Coordinator. Vince Veltri will ask Tom Casey if he would like to serve in that position.
New business: The yellow mower broke down. Members Dick Bobb and Steve Petitto fixed the mower. It was not an easy repair and the Board thanks them both.
Ken Roth is fixing the large grill. He has purchased some parts and is still looking for others.
Al Jensen reported that there are currently 285 members. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM.

Membership Meeting June 23, 2010
Twin Lakes Park, Sarasota, FL
The meeting was call to order @ 7:07 P.M. by President Bender. He led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
There were 36 members present.
New members or guests: New member Ryan Kisiel introduced himself.
Announcements:
President Bender informed the membership that the county is still pursuing about $51,000 for the damages caused when a jet crashed at our field over two years ago. SRQ is cooperating with the county in trying to get the jet owner’s insurance company to pay for the damages. President Bender will keep us informed.
Three solo certificates were issued. Ryan Kisiel received his certificate from Al Jensen. Roger Lockwood was his instructor. Nicolas and Michel Cvetan have also soloed. Mike Cameron was their instructor.
President Bender told the club the rights to the methane gas, that you see being burned off at the bottom of the field, have been sold. You may see some construction going on in that area. The owner came up to the field to see what was going on. It turns out he is a flier, as well, and is a member of a club in his home state of Colorado.
A motion was made to accept the May minutes as published. The motion was seconded and passed.
Treasure Hansen presented the financial report for May. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report as presented. The motion passed.

David Speed and Alden Fonseca brought in their turbine BobCat and Rafale models. David made a power point presentation on turbines.
The raffle was conducted by Mr. Kimbrell. The ESM Beech Bonanza V-tail was won by Roger Niolet.
