Minutes of the SRQ Board of Directors Meeting
Field Club House June 9, 2008
1. Meeting Called to Order at 7:03 PM by President Hay
a. Members Present: Bender, Buchholz, Hall, Hansen, Hay, O’Keefe
b. Members absent: Barry
2. President’s Report:
a. President Hay reported that the planned running track is being constructed in Rothenbeck Park. The track layout is such that any violations of the flying zone, particularly to the West will become very serious transgressions of our lease agreement.. J Hay will arrange for operation of the SRQ inside gate.
3. Secretary’s Report:
a. The Internet poll of membership regarding the choice of Twin Lakes vs Nokomis meeting sites is complete. 70% of respondents favor the Twin lakes facility. Respondents recommended 11 additional facilities as possible sites. Jon Hay will make an assessment of high potential sites.
b. The 2007 Membership manual has been reviewed. A cut sheet of changes was forwarded to Jon Hay who will update the text and arrange for printing. A motion was made by J Hall, seconded by E Buchholz to: authorize up to $200 to print manuals. Motion carried.
4. Treasurer’s Report:
a. Finances: Report for May 2008 approved.
b. Club welcomed 4 new members in May bringing total membership to 304.
c. Contract let to L. Long to conduct financial audit.
5. Old Business
a. Project to upgrade clubhouse: Revamp of A/C system on hold pending installation of new refrigerator donated to club by A. Jensen. Acquisition of chest freezer and repainting of SRQ logo in process.
b. Jon Hay will replace all spotlights with 45-watt units.
c. A new lease agreement was submitted to the County in April 2007. County representatives report that agreement is active and still being processed. Jon Hay will follow up.
d. P Bender reported on plans to replace shelving in the impound area, repair 4 picnic tables, obtain 4 new picnic tables and completely repaint the field facility. Both Home Depot and Lowes declined the opportunity to donate necessary materials. Motion by N Hansen seconded by E O’Keefe to: paint facility, replace plywood panels, replace wire shelving and refurbish picnic tables using appropriated maintenance funds was approved.
e. J Hall, Safety Officer will write letter to member who has repeatedly crashed aircraft outside prescribed fly zone.
f. J Hay is obtaining estimates to repair barbeque grill.
g. Fire status: Green
6. New Business
a. A motion by E O’Keefe, seconded by E Buchholz to: renew the D&O insurance policy at the end of current term was approved.
b. Discussion centered on instances of members flying outside the designated flight area in violation of the lease agreement with Sarasota County. In response to these and other safety violations, a group of deputy safety officers has been recruited. One deputy will be on duty each day to remind members of safety and procedural rules. J Hall is writing formal procedures.
c. O’Keefe will contact a candidate to take Ron Nash’s place as Flight Line editor.
d. Board members will review the club’s trifold advertising brochure. Once updated, the brochure will be printed.

MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES
May 28th, 2008
<Preliminary>
1. Meeting Called to Order:
a. At 7:08 PM by President Hay with 31 members present. He then led the membership with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
b. Visitor and new member John Weihs was welcomed.
2. Program:
a. Roger Niolet gave us a picture and video show of last weekends King Orange event.
b. The P-51 raffle plane was won by Bernie Saloman
c. Gene Payson of Troy Built Models, donated (5) tee-shirts and tickets to win a giant scale YAK to be raffled off at Hooters. These were won by: Phil Bender, Jim Martin, Pete Goldblatt, Mark Palmer and Bob Lorenson.
d. Solo Certificates were awarded to: Gideon Kiefer & Steve West

3. Secretary’s Report:
Motion to accept minutes of the April 2008 Membership by Joe Fast

4. Treasurer’s Report:
Neil Hansen presented a summary of club financial operations for April 2008.

5. Old Business:
a. Twin Lakes green room should be available for our June meeting.
b. Suggestions for a new permanent meeting place that were received by Al Jenson covered all ranges. A majority of those received do not want to meet in Nokomis. We currently have the Twin Lakes facility until October of this year. Starting in November the rental rate will double. Suggestions are welcome.
c. Printed Newsletter mailings will stop with the June issue. Hard copies will be available in the Operations Building at the field.
d. Jon Hay is looking for volunteers for the Scale Masters meet in October. Jim Holloman said that there are MCRC members who want to help. He is going to generate a list and submit it to Jon Hay.
6. New Business:
a.
Motion by Vince Veltri: SRQ to allow GES to use the field for a
swap meet on Saturday November 1st, between the hours of 8:00AM and
2:00PM.

b.
Motion by Mike Winter: SRQ to allow GES to hold Air Fair 2009. This will be held
in April of 2009, one week prior to Top Gun. It will be an IMAA legal event
with SRQ handling the food concession and SMA the parking.

c.
Motion by Ed Buchholz: SRQ should sell the weather receiver back to Sarasota
Avionics for $500.00.
2nd by Joe Fast – motion passed.
d. Report by Joe Fast that county and construction people are driving across the grass runway and creating ruts. Asked for and given permission to put up “keep off the grass” signs.
e. Report by Phil Bender that construction workers are using the porta-potty at the field. County will be notified of this action.
f. Jon Hay – Updated copies of the SRQ handbook are being printed and will be available soon.
g. George Jenkins – We should update and print new tri-fold flyers for the club. These are great for promoting the club.
h. Bryce Goodman – At the South East Electric Flight Festival this May, there were 114 electric planes in the air at one time. Of these 99 stayed in the air for at least one full minute. This feat has now been recorded and verified by Guinness Book of world records.
