Members Absent:         Vince Veltri

Guests:             Jim Holloman and Dick Bobb

The meeting was called to order by President Bender @ 7:00 P.M.

There was no report from the President or Secretary.

Treasurer Hanson reviewed the January financial report with the board.  The Annual Financial Report for 2009 was presented for review.  Minor formatting changes were suggested and the final report was approved.  The report will be published and made available to members on the website.  The final Scale Masters income/expense report was presented to the board.  The report was accepted into the records as presented.

Steve Sundheimer audited the 2008 financial records.  The auditor’s report was read and placed into the records.  The report found all transactions to be in compliance with proper accounting practices and procedures.  Mr. Sundheimer will also audit the 2009 financial records.

The current insurance policy was made available to all board members present and given to the secretary for filing.

Treasurer Hanson reported the results of his inspection of the Corvin Miller food concessions.  57 free meals were given out.  The free meals cost $200 plus all of the commission.  The Secretary will meet with the food concession supplier to see if a fair contract to both parties can be reached for the upcoming Air Fair event.

Old Business:

President Bender reported that the new lease should be signed by the county on or about February 20th. He will continue to watch the progress of this item.

The Board has decided to leave the gate open 24 hrs. a day.  This is in compliance with the lease.  The county gate will be the security of our facility after hours.  It was also noted that a security company patrols the entire park after hours.

A reminder will be published in the newsletter that all members should wear their membership badge on their person when it is not on the frequency board.

New Business:

The Board discussed removing the soda machine, as we do not do enough business to earn a commission.  Buying our own soda machine or going back to the old honor system and keeping soda in our refrigerator were all discussed.  The Board decided to keep the current system in effect.

The Board has become aware of a technical flaw in the by-laws.  Currently it is possible for a member to have an AMA membership that expires before his SRQ membership expires.  A by-law change will be proposed to correct this.

Our file cabinets are no longer sufficient to keep all of our records.  The Board authorized the purchase of 2 four-drawer file cabinets.

Al Jensen, our Training Coordinator has given his letter of resignation.  No replacement has been found.  A notice will be placed in the newsletter asking for a volunteer.

A notice will be placed in the newsletter advising all members that if they would like an issue to be discussed at the membership meeting, they should notify any board member so that it can be placed on the agenda.

Al Jensen reported that we currently have 269 members.  54 old members did not renew for 2010.  We have 31 new members for 2010.

Safety Officer Jim Holloman gave a report on safety violations.  Jim presented a procedure for handling violations of AMA and SRQ rules.  Modifications to the wording of the document were recommended.  Jim will make the changes and send them to the Board members by E-Mail for review.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:38 P.M.

Mike Winter reminded the members that the IMAA Golden Eagles Air Fair will be held on April 24th and 25th at the SRQ field. You must be an IMAA member and pay a $10.00 fee to fly.  80” monoplanes, 60” biplanes, and 140” turbines are allowed.

President Bender introduced the new officers and board to the membership.

In keeping our obligation to the county of involving the community in our activities, President Bender has arranged for 3 schools to make field trips to our club. Lectures on flight principles, flight demonstrations, and use of the flight simulator are provided.

A motion to have SRQ operate the food concessions for the Golden Eagles Air Fair was made and passed. The board will determine how this will be accomplished.

Treasurer Neil Hanson provided the treasurer’s report for November and December, as there was no December meeting. Separate motions to accept the November and December reports as presented were made and passed.

Neil also provided a final report of the financial results of the Corvin Miller Memorial Scale Contest.  The net result was a loss of approximately $300.00.  Several things were attributed to the loss.  A decrease in sponsorship due to the poor economy, high costs of free food given to volunteers and contestants, etc.  The board will look into the cost of the free food for this and future programs.

A motion was made to give long time member and good friend to many, Homer Hudson, an Honorary Membership in the Sarasota R/C Squadron. The motion was passed unanimously.

Ingo Donasch did a fabulous presentation on sailplanes.  Ingo is an expert with many victories to his credit.  (Just Google his name.)  Even if you had no interest in sailplanes, Ingo provided 30 minutes of entertainment and useful information.  The club thanks Ingo for his time and expertise.
