Freedom Village of Bradenton

by Jon Hay

On Tuesday January 29 SRQ President Jon Hay and Phil Bender was host to a few residents of Freedom Village of Bradenton. SRQ members flew a variety of planes for the guests from glow to electrics. Our guests said they had a great time and some said they never new this sport even existed. Before they left for lunch, they said they will make plans to attend the Scale Masters Championships in October.

It was our pleasure to show our facility and to fly for the residents of Freedom Village. We look forward to seeing you again in October.

Start-up Safety Restraints have been installed in the start-up areas at the center and east taxiways to the runway. It is recommended that no one start their planes alone with or without the Safety Restraints. But for those who insist on endangering themselves by starting alone please use the new restraints. The board recommends that “Homemade” restraints not be used. This includes PVC pipe, rope and any other concoctions that a few of our members have come up with. The new restraints are adjustable and will be more than adequate for all size aircraft.

Gary Schmidt originally recommended this very professional installation. Gary and John Hall provided the material and labor at no cost to the club. Thanks Gentlemen, for a quality job.

Dick Neumann uses the new safety restraints.

Our good friend and long time SRQ member Bill O'Leary passed away this morning (Sunday) after a long bout with his illness.  We have no info on arrangements at this time.

I believe you have a general e-mail group listing with which you can send this notice to our club members.  Many folks knew him and enjoyed chatting with him up at the field.

Thanks for your help,   Ed O'Keefe

Hi, it's  Mat from the airfield, you know the guy with the funny hat. Anyway Saturday I left my battery charger box out there, it's a wood one painted green. I noticed Saturday night, and went out there Sunday morning. The box was there along with all the different leads. In other words the charger and power supply were the only things taken. I was wondering if you could post something on the website asking for it's return no questions asked? It's a Super Brain 969, with a 120 to12 volt power supply. Thanks, and see you out at the field.

If you attended the October membership meeting you know that a motion was made to purchase a new digital weather station. The motion was defeated. When I arrived at the field this morning the digital weather system was being install. Apparently we have an anonymous benefactor. Whoever you are I for one thank you!

Jim Lasik aligns the unit with the world, the digital readout and installed and operating - it includes a rain gauge.
