by Mike Winter

On Thursday morning March 26, 2010 SRQ President Phil Bender arranged for a dozen or so students from Ascension Lutheran to visit our field for an up close and personal introduction to Model Aviation.

The children were accompanied by teacher Brooke Carbon  and Pastor Martin Mielke.

Scott Quick wowed everybody with his helicopter demonstration, David Speed gets many helping hands preparing his turbine powered plane, president Phil Bender holds while Bill Kimbrell explains the operation of his biplane and John Purcell holds his twin electric pusher 'jet'.

John Purcell lends a helping hand as Bill Kimbrell starts his bipe, Dick Waugh explains the operation of a tailless airplane, Frank Kagele shows off his Cessna 182 ARF and Alden Fonseca poses with his very impressive Eurofighter.

Jeff Dimitry with his Hughes Racer, Cliff Root shows a typical high wing trainer and board member Charles Allen kneels after an impressive demo with his electric powered aerobatic plane.

After the discussions and flight demonstrations the kids were asked to imitate airplanes.

The final part of our Introduction to Aviation was conducted in the Operations Building with many of the kids getting a chance to fly the Computer Flight Simulator. Joel Davies, on the left in the right hand picture, kept the simulator operational through many random inputs.

GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!
