CUB-IN 2009
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19, 2009
Well we put the cub-in back on this year, however, we added a different twist. We allowed any cabin style monoplane. I feel it was a success. We started out with a bang. Vince Veltri and one of his buddies flew over with a Cub and a Champ in formation. That was cooool. (thanks Vinnie). We had 20 entrants total with 34 planes on the field. We gave out special awards for realism and for pilots choice. SRQ's own Dave Barry won pilots choice and Bob Trepannier from the Englewood club won the realism award. We also had a 50/50 drawing and that was won by a gent from Cape Coral (whose name I did not get). Anyway, A good time was had by all. I would like to thank Bill Kersey for registration help, my lovely gal Mary Jo, Phil Bender, Jim Martin and last but not least the whole Kimbrell Clan. Oh yea and Jon Hay too! Next year we are thinking of having it again and expanding it to anything from WW1 to the Golden Era. That might be fun. If anyone has ideas please let me know.

As discussed at the September meeting, Bill Kimbrell made up a couple of signs to let the public know they are welcome at our events. This one was at the main gate to Rothenbach Park. Great choice of picture Bill!!
Not one but two full scale planes fly by to open the event. How many events can make that statement?
Vince Veltri leads in his Champ while Greg Woods in a J-3 Cub flies formation off Vinneys right wing.
CD Jim Hess Jr. tells everyone how it's going to be, low key and relaxed; the pilots listen and Bill Kersey and Mary Jo take care of registration.
The Kimbrell's once again catered an event for SRQ and it was fantastic as usual, who can resist photographing flames and the Kimbrell's were also selling official Cub-in 2009 T shirts.
