The 2015 Annual SRQ Club Picnic was held Saturday April 11 under mostly sunny skies and light to moderate breezes from across to straight down the runway, allowing for the practicing of both right and left hand traffic patterns.

We enjoyed a great turnout of pilots, spouses, kids and grandkids. A silent auction was held to sell a variety of airplanes and other goodies at what turned out to be bargain basement prices! Proceeds from the auction were donated to the club by Lou McDonald. Thank you, Lou!

Sonny's Bar B Que catered a delicious lunch of barbequed chicken, beef, and pulled pork accompanied with baked beans, potato salad, and coleslaw. Kudos to the folks from Sonny's and to Mike Cameron who arranged for Sonny's to feed us all.

Following lunch the Awards Ceremony honored Elinore Harris with the SRQ Karen Bender Model Wife Award. Elinore was surprised and very gracious in accepting her recognition. She shared with everyone that she and Norman have been together for 71 years. What an inspiration to all our married friends!

The President's Award went to Martin DeRoy for his service as SRQ Treasurer and dedication to making SRQ a club that welcomes newcomers.

The Member of the Year Award recipient was Steve Sundheimer, who, although a relatively recently anointed R/C pilot, has very generously given of himself in service and as past President.

Finally, many thanks to all who worked so hard, often behind the scenes, to make this year's club picnic yet another successful SRQ event!

Wishing you blue skies, gentle breezes, and happy landings

Jim Martin
