SRQ MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES
 
January 24th, 2018
  • President DeRoy called the meeting to order at 7:05PM. Twenty-two members were in attendance. Dave Speed led the Pledge of Allegiance.

  • Installation of officers:

    • Jim Martin officially welcomed new officers and board members:

      • Martin DeRoy , President;

      • Steve Sundheimer, Vice President;

      • Dave Hasler, Secretary;

      • Keith Dennis, Treasurer;

      • Lou Magliano, Board; Anthony Lassiter,Board ;Ken Shockey, Board.

  • Presidents report:

    • President DeRoy stated that insurance claims for field hurricane losses were in process.

    • He thanked John Hall for volunteering to be CD for three events planned this year:

      • Air Fair (Apr 28),

      • Golden Age and light Plane Fly In (Sept 15)

      • Warbird Fly In (Dec 8).

    • The Grand Re-Opening picnic for members is scheduled for Feb 3, with the Manatee Club being invited in gratitude for the use of their facilities during our shutdown.

  • VP Report:

    • VP Sundheimer announced that a 50-50 drawing would replace the traditional raffle and thanked Dick Wagh for the evening’s program on the “Spruce Goose”.

  • Treasurers report:

    • Keith Dennis presented the December Gator financial report.

    • Current membership for 2018 is 168.

  • Secretary’s report:

    • The January Board Minutes were accepted as published without objection.

  • Old Business:

    • none

  • New Business:

    • Members Veltri and Speed discussed the reasons why we could not charge for refreshments at club events:

      • lack of proper facilities and licensing.

    • Jim Martin announced that ship models that were built by a recently deceased friend were being made available for sale by the friend’s wife.

  • Program:

    • A video concerning the “Spruce Goose”, currently housed at the Evergreen Museum in Mc Minnville, OR was presented by member Dick Wagh.

  • Raffle:

    • 50-50 Drawing: $30.00 won by Ed Buchholz, $31 to club treasury

  • Adjournment: 8PM

  • All Board Members present.
  • Guests:

    • Dave Speed

  • Meeting called to order by President DeRoy at 6:00PM

  • PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

    • Field re- opening still estimated for Feb 1.

    • Secretary was advised that AMA registration needs to be addressed.

    • Full refunds will be given if requested to members who have paid dues for 2018, but decide not to use the field this year. No pro-rated refunds will be offered for the months that the field was/is unavailable for use.

  • TREASURERS REPORT:

    • December Gator report and 2017 year end budget were presented and approved.

    • It was noted that insurance deductible is 1K per building and not $1K overall , as previously assumed. Board will inquire into this and explore other insurance options.

    • Renewed application for state non-profit status will be required.

  • VP REPORT:

    • “Spruce Goose “ video may be presented at membership meeting if video equipment is functioning at Twin Lakes.

  • MEMBERSHIP:

    • Membership renewals are at 131 plus three new members.

    • Membership should increase when field reopens.

  • FIELD CONDITIONS:

    • New shelter fans have been installed.

    • Shingle replacement, fence and other repairs still need to be addressed.

  • NEW BUSINESS:

    • Board discussed the possibilities of continuing traditional events:

      • Air Fair

      • Golden Age

      • Warbirds.

    • It was generally agreed that a field re-opening picnic should be organized for the SRQ membership and for members of the other R/C Clubs who allowed us to fly at their fields during our shutdown.

    • VP Sundhiemer noted that this July will be State Park Month this year. The County would be appreciative if SRQ could stage and event that would be open to the public in regards to this. Board members agreed that “fly in” would be an appropriate venue.

    • Lou Magliano suggested that a 50-50 raffle should replace the traditional gift raffle at the membership meetings.
