SRQ BOARD Meeting Minutes

FEBRUARY 5, 2014

  • President Sundheimer called the meeting to order at 7:03pm. All board members were present with the exception of treasurer DeRoy.

  • President Sundheimer inquired if there were any corrections to the previous months minutes. Vince Veltri questioned the clarity of the recorded discussion of the fire safety question raised at the last meeting it was decided to discuss this as new business. There after the minutes were accepted as recorded.

  • The treasurers report was presented by David Speed in secretary DeRoys absence. There being no questions, the report will be presented to the membership unchanged.

  • President Sundheimer presented to vice president Hasler some DVDs given to him by Member J. Gerber as possible entertainment for future meetings. One of the DVD's was the grand illusion a well known excellent DVD about scale modeling.

  • The meeting had a guest in the person of Jim Martin who sparked a lively discussion about the clubs need for more community outreach. Among those things discussed was a possible scholarship for aviation minded youth. Working with the Boys and Girls Clubs here in Sarasota and displays of members models in shopping centers etc, similar to the kind given for the recent "legacy of valor" which was very successful.

  • President Sundheimer made the board aware that on Saturday February 8th the Venice club would hold its annual swap meet. He also brought up the matter of the outgoing safety officer and volunteered to take the position himself but that the entire board would accept the responsibility of assisting him whenever and wherever necessary.

  • Dick Bobb brought up the subject of waste removal and when necessary our trash cans will be picked up by Waste Management at the bottom of the hill.

  • With the board agreement Dave Hasler set the date for the club picnic for next May 17th. Dave once again has volunteered to run it.

  • New business:

    • The issue of possible firefighting equipment and protocols was discussed at length. Examined in this discussion were considerations such as liability, costs, training, and type of equipment. It was agreed that further consideration of this subject should be further examined and considered for 30 days.

    • Secretary Cameron who has been tasked with the newsletter dilemma asked the board about their thoughts concerning a possible quarterly news letter instead of a monthly publication. The board reacted favorably to the suggestion. Further discussion included the necessity of having any number of contributing editors.

  • There being no further business under discussion president Sundheimer adjourned the meeting at 9pm.
